Breaking down gender barriers in construction

As an organisation who values diversity and gender equity, it’s fantastic to see a group of experienced and talented women heading up the City of Palmerston’s flagship Swimming Wellness Events Leisure and Lifestyle (SWELL) project.

The new precinct, set to transform the original Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre, is being led by the City of Palmerston’s Mayor Athina Pasco-Bell, General Manager of Infrastructure Nadine Nilon and Jaytex Construction’s own project manager Laura Egorov.

All of whom continue to demonstrate that no gender barriers exist when it comes to construction and project management in the Northern Territory.

“It’s refreshing to see such gender diversity on the construction project” said City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell.

“Construction and project management can be very male dominated, but this project demonstrates that gender equity can be achieved”

“I’m happy to see we are seeing more women represented in all aspects of construction – from trades to project and contract management” said Project Manager Laura Egorov.

“SWELL is a fantastic project that delivers a state-of-the-art swimming, wellness, lifestyle and leisure precinct for our community. I am very excited to be involved in this significant project and to be able to work alongside women that have been integral in its development and leading its delivery” said General Manager Infrastructure Nadine Nilon.

Construction for the $19.4M project, the first of its kind for the City of Palmerston, kicked off in August 2022, to create a place for people. Featuring a toddlers play pool, two-storey adventure playground, events area, basketball court, new and improved amenities and a café.

The new precinct will ensure that the City of Palmerston continues to be a place where the community want to live and raise their children. While also providing an integral hub that will benefit the Palmerston community for years to come.

Jaytex are proud to be a part of such a profound and significant project, that is not only breaking down gender and diversity barriers and norms. But building a better future for our ever growing and changing community.

The project, thanks to the dedication, talent and expertise of the women at its helm is on track for completion in late 2023.
